Dehumidifying Hopper Dryer

The simple design produces maximum efficiency while minimizing maintenance. The dryer utilises dual desiccant beds each with its own/common heater or a four quadrant rotating bed, a process heater, and air distribution valve. The valve is the dryer's single moving part other than electrical motors.
Process air circulates through one side of the distribution valve, down through the active desiccant bed, to the process heater, into the drying hopper and back to the dryer. Simultaneously the inactive bed is regenerated.
Regeneration airflow is heated as it enters the inactive bed. The heated air passes through the bed to evaporate collected moisture. The air then flows through the other side of the distribution valve and into the atmosphere.
After the inactive bed is dry, the regeneration cycle continues until the inactive bed is sufficiently cooled. At that point the distribution valve changes position and the regeneration process commences on the newly saturated bed. Either a time cycle or a predetermined decrease in process air dew point can be used to automatically shift the airflow one bed to the other.
Two options are available. Cooling coils can be added to help manage the special requirements of high temperature and low temperature drying. Plasticizer coolers & filters are available for drying applications involving plastic resins that contain volatile material which may vaporize and re-condense in the dryer.
